Active wild: Natural history & science news, facts & information. (n.d.). Retrieved from https://www.activewild.com/plants-in-the-tropical-rainforest/.

On this web page one can find information about a variety of tropical rain forest plants. The author begins by describing what constitutes a rain forest and then describes how plants and trees compete for resources such as sunlight and water. After a brief introduction, different tropical rain forest plants are introduced and shown in photographs. The first plant mentioned is the ant plant. The ant plant is exactly what it sounds like-it is a home for ants! From there, we learn about drip trip leaves, buttress roots, soil, mangrove trees, epiphytes, bromeliads, orchids, and the Rafflessia arnoldii. This website is a great resource for students to learn about different types of plants found in the rain forest. Another positive is that under some of the descriptions is a video link to learn more. There are also links on the top of the page which lead you to learn more about different aspects of the rain forest. (Website)

Fanning, K. (n.d.). Scholastic News: All about the rain forest. Retrieved from http://teacher.scholastic.com/scholasticnews/indepth/rainforest/rainforest.asp.

This website teaches how to save the rain forest. It starts off with interesting and surprising facts, such as, “Start counting. In the time it takes you to reach 10, 25 acres of the world's rain forests will be destroyed.” The site discusses where rain forests are located and why they are important. There are links on the left side of the page, leading to websites about the effects of humans on rain forests, rain forest careers, and activities. There are links to different types of rain forests, such as tropical or temperate. The tropical rain forest page teaches about the layers of the rain forest and gives information about a few specific rain forest plants. There is also a link to an activity in which you can click on a product and find out which rain forest plant helped to make that product. One limitation of this website is that there is no glossary to help struggling readers figure out new vocabulary. Another limitation is the lack of photographs to help visual learners. (Website)
